valuable vacation trip tips to ensure a magical experience from
beginning to end. |
|
|
Preparing for Your Adventure
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
 |
Required Travel Documentation |
|
| |
|
|
| |
If you are a U. S. citizen, you will
need a valid passport to enter Peru and return to the United States.
It must be valid six months beyond your intended stay and have
1-2 blank pages remaining.
Allow yourself sufficient time to have your application processed
if you are applying for a new passport or renewing an expired
passport. Visit
www.state.gov for more details.
In addition, Guests 17 years of age or younger may be required to
show additional documentation when traveling with a single parent.
You do not need a visa to travel to Peru.
If you are not a U.S. citizen, please check the Peruvian embassy
website at
www.peruvianembassy.us for information on documentation
requirements.

What to Pack |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Please limit your baggage to one piece
of luggage per person plus one carry-on. Due to frequent security
changes, we recommend that you check with your air carrier as well
as the Transportation Security Administration's (TSA) website
www.tsa.gov for
current restrictions.
Comfortable walking shoes are needed as this adventure includes a
considerable amount of walking. Most attire is casual, although one
"smart casual" outfit is recommended. Layered clothes are best,
especially sweaters or jackets for cooler mornings and evenings.
Also, remember that the Sacred Valley and Cusco are very near the
equator and at a high altitude, so sunscreen and a hat are highly
recommended for outdoor activities.

Weather |
|
| |
|
|
| |
In Peru, the months of June-September
(the South American winter) are referred to as "the dry season." The
areas visited in this itinerary are generally clear and sunny.
Although weather might vary, Peru generally has the following
climate conditions and average temperatures:
|
Lima (sea level) |
|
|
June -
October average temperatures: Highs in the mid to
high 60s, lows in the high 50s to low 60s. |
| |
|
Sacred Valley and Cusco (approximately
9,000' and 11,000' respectively) |
|
|
June - October
average temperatures: Highs in the high 60s, lows
in the high 30s to low 40s. |
|
|
September and
October: Occasional rain showers, averaging 7 days
of rain per month. |

Currency |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Although the monetary currency in Peru
is the Nuevo Sol, many businesses accept American dollars. In
cities, ATM machines are available to obtain cash in the local
currency, and credit or debit cards are usually accepted. ATMs are
scarce in the Sacred Valley, so guests should be sure to obtain some
local currency upon arrival in Lima. The airport has convenient
exchange booths near the baggage claim area. |

|
| |

care of certain tips and gratuities for all included meals and
activities such as tips for porters, housekeepers, drivers, activity

per Adventure Guide: $45-$72 USD.

Transportation |
|
| |
|
|
| |
When spending time on your own, Cusco is
a good walking city and this is the best way to appreciate its
beautiful sights and architecture. In Lima, it is also easy to walk
to restaurants and shops in the Miraflores area where your hotel is
located. If you prefer, you can take a licensed taxi from your
hotels. For other means of transportation in Cusco, Lima or the
Sacred Valley, ask your Adventure Guide. |

 |
Adjusting to Altitude |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Most of this adventure takes place at
altitudes ranging from 8000 feet above sea level to 11,000 feet
above sea level. Because the adventure starts in the lower Sacred
Valley (9,200 ft) and Machu Picchu (8,000 ft), you have a chance to
get slightly acclimated before you reach the higher elevation of
Cusco (11,200 ft).
Altitude does affect some people. Individuals may initially
experience some shortness of breath and heart pounding. Other
symptoms include: headaches, loss of appetite, nausea and feeling
weak and dizzy. Generally, the effects of altitude sickness are
mitigated by drinking lots of water, resting periodically, avoiding
alcohol and eating lightly. We strongly encourage you to consult
with your physician to determine if this adventure is appropriate
for you and whether prescription medications to prevent altitude
sickness might benefit you. |
