2017 Disney Food & Wine Cookbook Shares Recipes Coast to Coast

2017 Disney Food & Wine Cookbook Shares Recipes Coast to Coast

For the first time ever, the 2017 “Disney Food & Wine Festival Coast-to-Coast Cookbook” takes you coast to coast to both Disney festivals – the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival that happens in the spring at the Disneyland Resort, and the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival, happening now through Nov. 13 at Walt Disney World Resort.

And since the Epcot festival is just under way, we’re sharing a new recipe from the Africa Marketplace, one of 35 Global Marketplaces at the 22nd Epcot International Food & Wine Festival.

2017 Disney Food & Wine Cookbook Shares Recipes Coast to Coast

Generously seasoned, this flavorful, vegetarian version of a hearty African stew gets even more protein from quinoa and yogurt toppings. You can toast the naan for chips, but the pillowy flatbread is just as delicious simply served warm on the side for sopping up the stew.

The Disney wine experts recommend pairing this dish with a Pinotage; a medium-bodied red wine with red fruit aromas and a touch of smokiness. Bon appétit!

The ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Ride Is Getting a Spoo-o-oky Makeover for Halloween

The 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Ride Is Getting a Spoo-o-oky Makeover for Halloween

“Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission:BREAKOUT!” is bringing an entirely new ride experience to Disney California Adventure for just six weeks — and it’s only happening at nighttime.

The massively popular attraction will operate normally each day, but will transform into “Guardians of the Galaxy — Monsters After Dark” on evenings from September 15 to October 31.

When the sun goes down, the lighting and ambiance of the Marvel superhero drop tower will change and the ride itself will be completely anew. Daytime guests will continue to enjoy the six random ride sequences set to a rotation of classic rock jams, but on Monsters After Dark, all riders will be treated to three never-before-seen show scenes created specifically for the Halloween season. Add to it a series of sudden drops synchronized to a brand new song by the film series’ composer, Tyler Bates, and you’ve got a thrill ride that will outdo any haunted house.

This seasonal adrenaline rush builds upon the Mission:BREAKOUT! storyline, which sees Rocket Raccoon breaking the other Guardians out of collector Taneleer Tivan’s fortress with the help of its passengers. In “Guardians of the Galaxy — Monsters After Dark,” guests will see what happens next as they’re enlisted to distract the supernatural creatures inhibiting the gang’s jailbreak as Rocket saves Baby Groot from being left behind.

“Guardians of the Galaxy — Monsters After Dark” is just one of many Halloween-inspired enhancements coming to Disneyland Resort this fall. In addition to decorations, themed merchandise and four additional rides re-themed for the holiday, Disneyland also offers a ticketed holiday party with a festive parade, fireworks, entertainment and trick-or-treating.

Starting June 14, you can also suit up for Super Hero Summer at Hong Kong Disneyland park and step into a new walk-through Avengers Agent mission set in Hong Kong.

Summer is Here at Disney Parks

You can also treat yourself to dazzling nighttime entertainment at all of our Disney parks this summer. Enjoy live orchestra performances of “The Music of Pixar Live!” at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and take in the new “Happily Ever After” nighttime fireworks spectacular at Magic Kingdom with stunning projections capturing the heart, humor and heroism of many favorite Disney animated films. At Disneyland park, “Fantasmic!”, the Rivers of America attractions and the Disneyland Railroad will return this summer, and don’t forget the Main Street Electrical Parade has been extended through August 20 – so catch it before it glows away!

If you love nighttime parades, you might remember that Tokyo Disneyland’s Electrical Parade Dreamlights is making a sparkling return, now featuring Anna and Elsa from “Frozen.” Tokyo Disney Resort has plenty to offer this summer, including the daytime “Disney Natsu Matsuri” – a colorful Japanese summer festival sprinkled with Disney magic – and “Disney Pirates Summer” for all you scallywags and buccaneers at Tokyo DisneySea.

Summer is Here at Disney Parks

Disneyland Paris continues to sparkle and shine with its 25th anniversary celebration. The festivities include two new daytime shows, a dazzling new parade and a stunning new nighttime finale. Plus, you won’t want to miss traveling at light speed on Hyperspace Mountain and Star Tours: The Adventures Continue.

And in just a few weeks, Shanghai Disney Resort – which recently welcomed its 10 millionth guest – will be celebrating its first anniversary with a month of festivities and a magical moment at Enchanted Storybook Castle on June 16. Adventure is out there, and it all begins with you this summer. Let us know what you’re looking forward to most in the comments below!

Ride to the Beat of Favorite Tunes on Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! at Disney California Adventure Park

Ride to the Beat of Favorite Tunes on Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! at Disney California Adventure Park

Just like Star-Lord crosses the cosmos to the beat of vintage pop songs from his awesome mix tape, guests aboard the new Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! at Disney California Adventure park will rise and fall to the tune of six famous pop favorites throughout their epic adventure. Each time guests board a gantry lift to rescue the Guardians of the Galaxy from The Collector’s Fortress, they will experience one of the six randomized scenarios created for the attraction. Each ride profile will utilize the attraction’s hair-raising ascend-and-drop sensation, as Rocket hotwires the lift to play one of these awesome songs from the ‘60s, ‘70s or early ‘80s:

  • “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” by Pat Benatar (1980)
  • “Give Up The Funk” by Parliament (1975)
  • “Born To Be Wild” by Steppenwolf (1968)
  • “I Want You Back” by The Jackson 5 (1969)
  • “Free Ride” by The Edgar Winters Group (1973)
  • “Burning Love” by Elvis Presley (1972)

The songs and drop sequences aren’t the only things that will vary among these randomized scenarios – each one shows a different version of the escape, with different action sequences playing out before your rising and falling gantry lift.

The multiple ride experiences are the result of extensive research, experimentation and ride testing by the creative team at Walt Disney Imagineering. The team worked from a list of nearly 100 fun, high-energy songs, narrowing the list down to the final six by testing each one in action. Boarding a gantry lift, they donned their own headsets – just like Star-Lord – and played each track to see which songs worked best with potential ride profiles.

“A strong identifiable rhythm and a memorable hook were key points,” explained John Dennis, Executive Creative Director, Walt Disney Imagineering. “For example, ‘Free Ride’ has an iconic guitar hook, a killer bass line in the verse and, in the chorus, the backing vocals have a great ascending line. The rock n roll music playing on board the ride is just plain fun. The songs, each paired with its own ride profile, give us six unique experiences.”

The songs enhancing the adventure of Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! aren’t the only ways in which the attraction acknowledges the importance of music in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” movies. “Guardians of the Galaxy” film composer Tyler Bates wrote the music for The Collector’s Fortress lobby and office scenes, as well as for the attraction exit.

Come rock to the beat of these favorites when Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! opens May 27 at Disney California Adventure park!

Mickey, Minnie and the rest of the gang will be dressed in their most dapper outfits atop parade floats adorned with beautiful blossoms.

Tokyo Disney Resort’s ever-popular Disney’s Easter program is back this year through June 14, featuring the mischievous Usatama bunny-eared egg characters known for causing mayhem all over both parks.

Disney Parks in Full Bloom for Spring

Did you know that April 12 is Disneyland Paris’ official anniversary date? The 25th anniversary celebration has already begun with a dazzling array of entertainment offerings including a new parade, two daytime castle shows and a nighttime spectacular. Jump into the stories of some of your favorite Disney movies as scenes are projected onto Sleeping Beauty Castle during “Disney Illuminations,” or transport yourself into a galaxy far, far away on Star Tours: The Adventures Continue.

Catch a glimpse of our signature topiaries inspired by classic Disney characters and treat your taste buds to foods made from the freshest ingredients. Then hop over to Magic Kingdom Park, where you’ll find Mr. and Mrs. Easter Bunny greeting guests by Town Square through April 16. As a treat, a special Easter pre-parade will also appear before the Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade on April 15 and 16.
