Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Construction Milestone Celebrated at Disneyland Park

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Construction Milestone Celebrated at Disneyland Park

Recently, Walt Disney Imagineering and the project teams responsible for bringing Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to life at Disneyland park celebrated a major milestone — the topping out of the tallest peak in the 14-acre land.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Construction Milestone Celebrated at Disneyland Park

Rising to 130 feet, the steel that makes up the highest point in the new land was put in place as the design and construction teams celebrated the tradition.

Another part of this longtime construction tradition is when signatures are placed on the steel beam, and for this topping out every Disneyland Resort cast member was invited to take part! This isn’t the only way our cast members are getting involved.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Construction Milestone Celebrated at Disneyland Park

Soon, a selected team of cast members will lend their expertise to the process of bringing the land’s two signature attractions to life. They will offer their unique knowledge of our parks, attractions and operations to inform and influence how the immersive attractions allow guests to experience Star Wars in their own way.

As you can see in the photo below, progress continues on Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at the Walt Disney World Resort where the remote trading port continues to take shape at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

As announced recently at D23 Expo, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is set to open in 2019, first at the Disneyland Resort and later that year at the Walt Disney World Resort.

Dad’s Turn! Restaurants and Shops Celebrate Father’s Day with Bargains, Gifts and Special Menu Items at Downtown Disney District

Dad’s Turn! Restaurants and Shops Celebrate Father’s Day with Bargains, Gifts and Special Menu Items at Downtown Disney District

Whether Dad is into jazz, customized toy race cars, haute (hat) couture or just good grub, he and the rest of the family will find something make Father’s Day extra special this weekend in the Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort.

Does Dad look good in a fedora? More of an Indiana Jones kind of guy? He can get 20 percent off his pick Friday through Saturday, June 16-18, at Chapel Hats.

Is it a good weekend for auto racing? It’s always a good weekend for auto racing! Take Dad to RideMakerz in Downtown Disney District on Saturday or Sunday, build your ride, and Dad can build a second ride for free!

Dad’s Turn! Restaurants and Shops Celebrate Father’s Day with Bargains, Gifts and Special Menu Items at Downtown Disney District

If Dad grooves to New Orleans Jazz, look into the regular Sunday Brunch Fest, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen. Brunch features New Orleans-inspired cuisine, of course, plus live entertainment from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and Louisiana-brewed Abita beer on tap.

June 16 to 18, Tortilla Jo’s is celebrating Dad with all his favorite flavors in El Papi’s Fajitas – grilled steak and chicken, Mexican shrimp and chorizo, Michoacan-style carnitas, grilled nopales, roasted cebollitas and bell peppers, queso ranchero and house-made molcajete salsa.

Uva Bar celebrates throughout the month with a special Father’s Day sandwich: the Big Daddy Burger with their signature beef blend, applewood bacon, fried egg, avocado, white cheddar, tomato, lettuce, secret sauce and brioche bun. Dad may want to pair it with a Sierra Nevada Tropical Torpedo, combining hops with essence of mango, papaya and passion fruit.

At the ESPN Zone on Sunday, there will be two Father’s Day specials created especially for the day: a Korean-style burger made with grass-fed beef, sambal aioli, pulled pork BBQ sauce, kimchi and tempura-fried avocados or, for the bigger appetite, the Father’s Day Grill Out: smoked brisket, smoked pork ribs, grilled beer-braised bratwurst sausage and street-style corn. Cocktail service will be available throughout the day in the ESPN Zone’s Patio lounge, with seating on a first come, first served basis.

Naples Ristorante e Pizzeria offers The Godfather Pizza on Saturday and Sunday: pepperoni, Italian sausage, meatball, green peppers, mushrooms, red onion, mozzarella and tomato sauce.

When dinnertime comes around, Catal tempts Dad with a three-course prime rib dinner, Sunday only.

If he is in more of a snacking mood, you could take him to Wetzel’s Pretzels Saturday or Sunday, where buying a pretzel and a drink will get him a free pretzel dog. Or, if he has more of a sweet tooth, get him a DAD Box at Sprinkles, available Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The DAD box is loaded with his favorite treats, including Red Velvet, Salty Caramel, Black & White and Vanilla Milk Chocolate.

Lots to do, and lots to eat at Downtown Disney District this Father’s Day weekend, but I’m sure Dad has the energy for it. After all, energy is a big part of what fatherhood is about.

Make Reservations for Mother’s and Father’s Day Events

Disney community’s next two Culinary Magic events are just around the corner, and whether you are a parent, have a parent or know a parent, you may want to check these out. Presented as part of Membership Magic Ever After, these festive celebrations for Disney Vacation Club Members and special guests put a distinctively Disney spin on Mother’s Day at Walt Disney World Resort and Father’s Day at the Disneyland Resort.

Reservations are now open for the Disney Vacation Club Member Mother’s Day Brunch, taking place on May 14 from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the Fantasia Ballroom at the Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Priced at $53.95 for adults and $29.95 for kids ages 3-9 (plus tax and gratuity), this year’s brunch theme – “You’ll Be in My Heart” – draws inspiration from the unconditional love and unbreakable family bond celebrated in the Walt Disney Animation Studios hit “Tarzan.” Beyond the bountiful buffet of traditional brunch favorites, the Mother’s Day Brunch will feature music from “Tarzan” and beyond performed by a live guitarist, mimosas for Moms (and other attendees of legal age) and visits with some of your other favorite jungle friends.

On April 19, reservations are scheduled to open for the Disney Vacation Club Member Father’s Day Lunch, taking place on June 18 from noon-2 p.m. in the Sequoia Ballroom at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. Priced at $53.95 for adults and $29.95 for kids ages 3-9 (plus tax and gratuity), this year’s lunch celebrates Super Dads (a title I aspire to earn) with a feast fit for a hero. BBQ baby back ribs and buttermilk fried chicken are among the hungry-Dad staples on the buffet, with fathers also receiving a “Super-Sized” cookie that I’m told is designed to be shared with one’s kids. (Wait, if being a Super Dad requires sharing your cookie, I’ll settle for the title of Really Good Dad.) Kids can pose with their paternal hero in three different photo locations designed to celebrate what’s super about their Dads, with other activities ranging from a DJ dance party, “Super Smart” Disney trivia, crafts for kids to create for Dads and more.

Both events personally cater to families with tables custom-set for their party size. Call Member Services for reservations, and enjoy your celebration!

Menu, activities, entertainment and Characters are subject to change. Guests must be 21 years old with a photo I.D. to consume alcohol.

You should not purchase or add on a real estate interest in a Disney Vacation Club Resort in reliance upon the continued availability or renewal or extension of these offers. Membership Extras are also subject to availability and block–out dates may apply, including high periods of demand such as Christmas and New Year’s Day. To receive any Membership Extras, purchasers must present a valid Disney Vacation Club Membership Card along with a corresponding valid photo ID. Effective April 4, 2016, Members who do not purchase an ownership interest directly from Disney Vacation Development Inc. will not have access to Membership Extras.

Disney Parks in Full Bloom for Spring

Disney Parks in Full Bloom for Spring

Spring is a favorite season at Disney Parks – and this year, we’ve got even more in store for you. With a new festival at Shanghai Disney Resort, a dazzling celebration at Disneyland Paris and a long list of limited-time experiences at every resort around the world, a springtime visit is an absolute must. Today, we’re sharing a look at how you can soak up the sun and celebrate with us.

Disney Parks in Full Bloom for Spring

We’re excited to share that as part of Shanghai Disney Resort’s first spring season, we recently kicked off a brand new Egg-tastic Celebration. This 10-day festival is filled with plenty of Easter-inspired events and entertainment, including a scavenger hunt, surprise appearances from favorite Disney characters and spring-themed food and beverage items.

This year, more than one hundred Disney characters are taking part in Hong Kong Disneyland’s spring celebration. See if you can spot your favorites in the Disney Friends Springtime Processional, exclusive to the resort. Mickey, Minnie and the rest of the gang will be dressed in their most dapper outfits atop parade floats adorned with beautiful blossoms.

Tokyo Disney Resort’s ever-popular Disney’s Easter program is back this year through June 14, featuring the mischievous Usatama bunny-eared egg characters known for causing mayhem all over both parks.

Disney Parks in Full Bloom for Spring

Did you know that April 12 is Disneyland Paris’ official anniversary date? The 25th anniversary celebration has already begun with a dazzling array of entertainment offerings including a new parade, two daytime castle shows and a nighttime spectacular. Jump into the stories of some of your favorite Disney movies as scenes are projected onto Sleeping Beauty Castle during “Disney Illuminations,” or transport yourself into a galaxy far, far away on Star Tours: The Adventures Continue.

Of course, it wouldn’t be spring without a visit to the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival. Catch a glimpse of our signature topiaries inspired by classic Disney characters and treat your taste buds to foods made from the freshest ingredients. Then hop over to Magic Kingdom Park, where you’ll find Mr. and Mrs. Easter Bunny greeting guests by Town Square through April 16. As a treat, a special Easter pre-parade will also appear before the Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade on April 15 and 16.

Disney Parks in Full Bloom for Spring

At Disneyland Resort, keep an eye out for our Egg-stravaganza scavenger hunt and be sure to grab a bite at the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival. The fun continues with the added bonus of the Main Street Electrical Parade extension through August 20.

What are you looking forward to the most this spring? Tell us in the comments below.

Just 2 More Weekends to Experience Epcot International Festival of the Arts

Just 2 More Weekends to Experience Epcot International Festival of the Arts at Walt Disney World Resort

We’ve now managed to taste most of the artful dishes at the Food Studios around World Showcase Promenade (and highly recommend the wild mushroom risotto with aged Parmesan, truffle shavings and Zinfandel reduction at Masterpiece Kitchen), but the ever-changing visual and performance art brings us back for yet another weekend at the Epcot International Festival of the Arts.

Just 2 More Weekends to Experience Epcot International Festival of the Arts at Walt Disney World Resort

Top of the list for this Friday to Monday is a seat for the Disney on Broadway Concert Series at America Gardens Theatre. Disney Theatrical stars Kissy Simmons and Alton Fitzgerald White will be performing songs from “The Lion King,” “Aida,” “Aladdin” and “The Little Mermaid.” Included with park admission, their concerts alone are worth a return visit.

Just 2 More Weekends to Experience Epcot International Festival of the Arts at Walt Disney World Resort

But we’re also excited to see Disney Legend Marty Sklar, the guy who ran Walt Disney Imagineering for decades, presenting the art of Herb Ryman (the man whom Walt Disney asked to sketch the original drawings for Disneyland park) and Mary Blair (best known for her character designs for the “it’s a small world” attraction). Marty worked with them both, and has fascinating tales to share. Marty joined the company at Disneyland in 1956, so his tales are especially captivating to Disney fans. The complimentary seminar is at 4:30 p.m. Sunday; his Saturday seminar is sold out.

There are 18 seminars throughout the weekend, some complimentary, some with a fee. We’re taking note of the complimentary Handwritten Typography on Friday; Glass Blowing & Glass Art at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, and Food Styling 101 (learn how to make your Instagram photos shine!) at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

Two others catching our eye are Olive Oil 101 at 11 a.m. Sunday ($39), and Venetian Mask Making at 11 a.m. Monday – you get to take home your own papier mâché art while learning the history behind mask making ($39).

New Star Wars Experiences Coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios

1204zu_0134dr-742x954

A galaxy of new Star Wars experiences is coming to Walt Disney World Resort!

Guests, including fans of the epic space saga, will find new entertainment, special displays inside Star Wars Launch Bay, a first-ever themed tour and more at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Premiering this Month

  • Star Wars Launch Bay – a multi-sensory space celebrating all things Star Wars – is now updated with authentic replicas from “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” joining other Star Wars memorabilia in the preview gallery. Making-of footage from “Rogue One” has been added to the “Meet the Makers” film featured in Star Wars Launch Bay.
  • In the popular daytime stage show “Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away,” guests will get a first look at AWR Troopers from “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.” Outfitted in their specialized Stormtrooper armor with a dark, ominous gleam, these soldiers serve as bodyguards and enforcers for Director Krennic, a highly placed officer within the Advance Weapons Research (AWR) division of the Empire. A new Troopers sequence will join the show Dec. 16. Performances daily.
  • The fan favorite nighttime show, “Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular,” will return to Disney’s Hollywood Studios on December 16 and will join “Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM!” as a second nightly fireworks spectacular at the park through Dec. 31. The show will continue to be presented in 2017.
  • Starting mid-December, randomized tracks will be returning to Star Tours – the Adventures Continue, the popular attraction that uses motion simulator-based technology. Instead of each ride experience launching from the planet of Jakku, the attraction will be randomized to both start and end at different locations for every galactic journey. New scenes from “Star Wars: Episode VIII” will be added to Star Tours in the coming year.

New in 2017
For the ultimate fan comes the ultimate tour. An all-new Star Wars guided tour is a seven-hour immersion in all the park’s current Star Wars experiences. Here’s what it includes:

  • A Star Wars “all-in-the-know” tour guide
  • Priority boarding for Star Tours – The Adventures Continue
  • Encounter two Star Wars characters (Chewbacca and Kylo Ren) at Star Wars Launch Bay
  • An in-depth, insider’s tour around Star Wars Launch Bay
  • Screening of “Star Wars: Path of the Jedi
  • Enjoy Star Wars-themed menu items during dinner at Backlot Express
  • A spot in the Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular Dessert Party, which includes themed sweets and specialty beverages, as well as reserved viewing for the Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular fireworks show

Younglings ages 4-12 on the guided tour package can also train in the way of The Force in Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple. Priced at $129 per person, tours begin Jan. 2 and will be offered on Mondays and Saturdays throughout 2017. Reservations for January tours can be made soon.

This latest flight of additions celebrating the Star Wars saga continues to elevate the Star Wars presence at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Entire Star Wars-themed lands are now under construction at the theme park and at Disneyland Park in California.

‘Remember … Dreams Come True’ Returns To Disneyland Park Beginning Feb. 3

With the classic Main Street Electrical Parade coming home to Disneyland park on Jan. 20, spring 2017 is already shaping up to be a great blast to the past for Disneyland fans. Now there’s even more excitement in the air with the return of the beloved fireworks spectacular “Remember… Dreams Come True.”

sdkjf999

Initially presented as the evening highlight of the 50th anniversary of Disneyland Resort in 2005, “Remember… Dreams Come True” features Tinker Bell’s flight, brilliant fireworks, soaring music, dazzling special effects and an amazing journey through the various lands of Disneyland with archival audio tracks, favorite songs and familiar phrases from some of the park’s most popular attractions, past and present. I’m partial to seeing flame effects erupt from Sleeping Beauty Castle during the Indiana Jones Adventure sequence and the feeling of being in a virtual stretching room as fireworks launch straight into the sky to welcome the Haunted Mansion’s “Grim, Grinning Ghosts.”

What’s your favorite part of the show? Let us know in the comments section. Are you a fan of the quieter moments, like when “Shenandoah” plays, representing Rivers of America? Or do you get goosebumps when those five familiar, musical tones from Star Tours suddenly give way to the “Star Wars” theme, complete with lasers?

You’ll have a chance to relive all those moments and more, when “Remember… Dreams Come True” once again begins regular weekend performances on Feb. 3.

Work is already underway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland® Park in Anaheim, CA, to bring the stories from a galaxy, far, far away to life in the parks.

Shanghai Disney Resort Celebrates Historic Grand Opening

Shanghai Disney Resort, the first Disney resort in Mainland China and the sixth worldwide, celebrated its historic Grand Opening today, culminating one of Disney’s most ambitious projects ever. Bob Iger, chairman and chief executive officer of The Walt Disney Company, celebrated the opening of the one-of-a-kind vacation destination with thousands of distinguished guests, celebrities and Chinese officials.

SHOM496761

“The grand opening of Shanghai Disney Resort is a celebration of creativity and collaboration, a triumph of imagination and innovation, and a testament to the strong partnership between Disney and China,” Iger said. “Together we have created an extraordinary destination, a magical place unique in all the world, where East meets West, the past meets the future, and anything is possible for those who believe. It is our sincere hope that this spectacular place will inspire wonder and create joy for the people of China for generations to come.”

Honoring the Disney-Chinese partnership that created this resort, Iger and Chinese officials cut a red-and-gold ribbon to dedicate Shanghai Disneyland, the resort’s magnificent theme park. Joining Iger were Wang Yang, CPC Politburo Member and State Council Vice Premier, and Han Zheng, CPC Politburo Member and Party Secretary of Shanghai. Iger also shared a greeting similar to the one Walt Disney said on opening day for the original Disneyland, in 1955: “To all who come to this happy place, welcome.”

SHOM496765

The Grand Opening ceremony marked the moment with music, pageantry and a stream of Disney characters, from Mickey Mouse and Snow White to Baymax and Jack Sparrow, in front of the iconic Enchanted Storybook Castle. A multi-generational choir performed a unique version of the Disney song, “When You Wish Upon a Star,” arranged in a Chinese style to reflect the balance of Disney magic and China’s cultural spirit at Shanghai Disney Resort. The ceremony also featured six performers holding enormous, brightly colored fans to represent the six lands of Shanghai Disneyland.

Following the official dedications, tens of thousands of guests entered Shanghai Disneyland on its Grand Opening day to explore world-class attractions and live entertainment spectaculars—many being offered for the first time in a Disney theme park. The three-day Grand Opening event also included two red-carpet occasions: Tuesday’s premiere of the first Mandarin production of THE LION KING, now showing at the Walt Disney Grand Theatre, and Wednesday’s gala concert with celebrity performers at Evergreen Playhouse in Shanghai Disneyland.
