The New Princess Fairytale Hall Opens Its Doors September 18 at Magic Kingdom

While Walt Disney Imagineers are busy putting the finishing touches on Princess Fairytale Hall in Magic Kingdom Park, they shared some news and a video with us. This exquisitely detailed Disney Princess character greeting location is the next to debut as a part of the New Fantasyland expansion – and Disney Parks Blog was happy to share that the Hall will officially open its doors on Sept. 18.

The New Princess Fairytale Hall Opens Its Doors September 18 at Magic Kingdom

Walt Disney Imagineering also shared a new sneak peek video with us in honor of today’s announcement. In it, Imagineers Pam Rawlins and Jason Grandt explain just how detailed this new character greeting area will be. In addition to a castle-like entrance, high ceilings and elegant wood-paneled rooms, the space will feature beautiful princess portraits, themed wallpaper, glittering stained glass windows and accessories that have been inspired by props seen in films like “Cinderella” and “Tangled.”

As a reminder, Princess Fairytale Hall will offer two separate character greeting experiences, which means there are two queues to choose from. You can choose to meet either Cinderella or Rapunzel, each of whom will be joined by one fellow Disney princess.

And yes, Princess Fairytale Hall will offer both traditional Disney FASTPASS and the new Disney FastPass+ options.

Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Tom Staggs Discusses MagicBands at All Things Digital Conference

Tom Staggs, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, showed off its new high-tech system at the 11th D: All Things Digital conference. This is the most information we’ve seen released on the new MagicBands.

Mr. Staggs discussed the many possibilities that come with the MagicBands, including customized “Happy Birthday” messages for guests and interactive attractions.

(This video is 29 mnutes)

A few of Mr. Staggs Major Points:

  • Disney’s park characters, including talking Mickey Mouse, will be able to know visitors names in advance of meeting them, even setting up specific meet-and-greet times for personalized encounters.

  • Restaurants, beginning with Be Our Guest in New Fantasyland, will allow advance ordering of food, ready upon arrival.

  • Guests will be able to design an It’s a Small World doll online at home, which will appear in the ride, popping up from behind decorations, while passing by, appearing along with a special message if guests are celebrating an occasion, like a birthday.

  • Ride times, fireworks and parade seating, and other attractions will be able to be reserved from home in advance using the My Disney Experience online system.

  • MagicBands will integrate with FastPass and PhotoPass systems.

  • Staggs hinted that the upcoming Disney Infinity console video game will interact with the MagicBand, though he noted he isn’t ready to make any official announcements.

  • Staggs emphasized the overall goal is not to convert all attractions to digital experiences, noting Disney’s parks are a 360-5 experience, meaning 360-degrees around guests using all five senses. He also said It’s a Small World as a digital ride would not be appealing, but attractions like that can be enhanced digitally.

New Magic in the Making at Walt Disney World Resort

From flying over Never Land to taking a spin in a tea cup, Fantasyland has been home to some of our guests’ favorite experiences at Walt Disney World Resort since opening day. So when Disney set out to reinvent the most popular land at our most popular Disney destination, they knew that it had to be something truly spectacular – and it is true to say that New Fantasyland is exactly that.

Last Friday, Tom Staggs,  chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, toured the construction site as Disney completed the finishing touches for their official opening on December 6, and while the entire expansion is extraordinary, there are a few aspects in particular that should think will be huge hits with guests.

Enchanted Tales with Belle - New Magic in the Making at Walt Disney World Resort

Part of what makes Disney Parks so special is our ability to connect people with the Disney characters and stories they love. With Enchanted Tales with Belle, we’re doing that in a magical new way. Guests will enter Belle’s cottage, step through an enchanted mirror and be transported to the world of “Beauty and the Beast,”where they’ll help Lumiere, Belle and The Wardrobe recreate “the tale as old as time” by becoming part of the story themselves. Our Imagineers have brought these characters to life in ways that are sure to delight guests both young and old.

One of the hallmarks of a great Disney experience is the meticulous attention to detail that goes into the worlds we create, and the queue for Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid is another fantastic example of “the more you look, the more you see.” Before taking a voyage under the sea with Ariel and her friends, guests can explore the caves and grottos in and around Prince Eric’s castle, interacting playfully with Scuttle and a few of his friends along the way. The rockwork that’s been done is spectacular, and the paintings that adorn the vaults beneath the castle help draw visitors to New Fantasyland even further into the story of the beloved animated film.

One of the most gratifying aspects of this expansion is the way that our new attractions, entertainment, merchandise and food offerings all come together to create a singular experience that is a worthy addition to a park as iconic as Magic Kingdom Park. The result is only possible through the hard work and the collaboration from people across Disney Parks and Resorts, and I am extremely proud of what they have accomplished. We can’t wait to take guests beyond the walls of Cinderella Castle to discover the new stories, new adventures and new magic that will help them make shared memories that last a lifetime.

All in the Details: Suits of Armor at Be Our Guest Restaurant at Magic Kingdom Park

I have to say that of all the amazing photos we’ve run of Be Our Guest Restaurant in New Fantasyland over the past six months, this first shot is probably one of my top-five favorites.

Suits of Armor at Be Our Guest Restaurant

This pic shows a hall lined with suits of armor that guests will pass on their way into the lunchtime quick-service ordering area of the restaurant. This part of the restaurant totally reminds me of the scene in the film, “Beauty and The Beast,” when Belle first enters Beast’s Castle and passes through a hallway just like this. When she steps past one particular suit of armor, it turns its head, which is our first hint that this castle just might be enchanted.

I was able to stop through New Fantasyland in Magic Kingdom Park over the weekend to see these amazingly detailed suits of armor for myself. And I have to say that when you walk down this hallway, there just might be a sign or two that indicate that Be Our Guest’s suits of armor might also be enchanted.

A Beast in His Lair at Magic Kingdom Park

Last week we had the opportunity to photograph Beast in front of his castle in New Fantasyland for a film shoot. I took this shot in-between takes and I just had to share it with you. As you can see, sometimes you don’t even need to see the whole character to tell a pretty cool story with a photo.

All in the Details: The First Photos from Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid at Magic Kingdom Park

Today we’re thrilled to share the very first photos from inside the Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid attraction, which will open at Magic Kingdom Park this December.

Housed in the grottos below Prince Eric’s Castle, this New Fantasyland attraction invites guests to follow Ariel on her remarkable journey as she meets Prince Eric, falls in love, and makes a deal with Ursula, the evil Sea Witch.

These photos, supplied by Walt Disney Imagineering, are some of my favorite that we’ve shared in our “All in the Details” series so far. I love this shot, which is obviously inspired by the “Kiss the Girl” scene from the film.

And check out some of Sebastian’s friends above – sure looks like they’re having fun “Under the Sea.”

Many of you have asked about the differences between this attraction and The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure attraction at Disney California Adventure park. For that answer, you can’t miss our previous posts and photos of the attraction’s impressive exterior, which includes Prince Eric’s Castle, and its queue, which leads through shipwrecks and rocky cliffs below.

First Look at New Fantasyland Pins Coming to Walt Disney World Resort

First Look at New Fantasyland Pins Coming to Walt Disney World Resort

With the opening of New Fantasyland only a few months away, I’m beginning a series of articles to reveal merchandise we’ve created for this exciting area. I figured I’d start with Disney pins, which have been a part of major openings since the introduction of Disney Pin Trading in 1999. For New Fantasyland, the pin team created a variety of pins to collect, including open and limited edition pins, boxed sets, multi-pin sets, and some pins designed especially for Annual Passholders. Today, I’m highlighting just a handful of favorites.

New Fantasyland will officially open on December 6 at Magic Kingdom Park. On that day, we will release several limited edition pins that commemorate the grand openings of different experiences. The image above also shows the awesome opening day “I Was There” pin, featuring Belle.

collect all the pins in a particular mystery set

People have often asked me which pins they should collect. I recommend pins that have a special meaning to the collector. I also suggest mystery sets, as they are a collection with an ending. Once you collect all the pins in a particular mystery set, you can focus on a different collection.

We are releasing a few different mystery sets for New Fantasyland. One set is a limited release and will feature pins inspired by the “Beauty and the Beast” experiences. Another is a limited release “reveal / conceal” set with 10 known pins featuring images from New Fantasyland. This set will also have 10 mystery pins. Each box contains one pin you can see, while the other pin is a mystery. Also look for a similar “reveal/conceal” set for The Barnstormer.

 pins created for Storybook Circus

I like some of the pins created for Storybook Circus. The Dumbo-themed set contains one of my favorite images from the film – storks flying over Florida. Five of the eight Dumbo pins in this set will be sold individually, but the boxed set contains the complete collection. I was also happy to see Humphrey the Bear included in the five-pin character set (more Humphrey merchandise, please!).

super jumbo pin that will measure approximately six inches by five inches

Finally, to celebrate one of the largest expansions in Magic Kingdom Park’s history, we will have a super jumbo pin that will measure approximately six inches by five inches. Now that’s a pin!
