20th Epcot International Food & Wine Festival Expands Into Future World

For the first time ever, the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival is stretching into the park’s Future World with four new food and beverage marketplaces.

The festival opens September 25 and runs through November 16, and will feature more than 30 global marketplaces for sipping and noshing throughout the park.

Along the walkway toward Future World West, the new Artistry of Wine & Cheese festival area will feature the Cheese Studio (offering a cheese sampler served on an artist’s palette to pair with wines) and the Wine Studio with premium wines on tap – each keg keeps the wine super fresh and holds the equivalent of 26 bottles, eliminating bottle, cork, cardboard and paper waste. Bottles, corks and materials from other marketplaces are recycled.

Then, near the Epcot Character Spot, the new Next Eats area will debut with Sustainable Chew and Chew Lab marketplaces inspired by ABC’s Emmy-Award winning lifestyle series “The Chew,” starring co-hosts Mario Batali, Michael Symon, Carla Hall, Clinton Kelly and Daphne Oz. Sustainable Chew will feature three dishes, and Chew Lab will show off hot culinary tech trends like a Liquid Nitro Chocolate Almond Truffle with Warm Whiskey Caramel.

Beginning July 15, you can call your Kingdom Magic Travel Planner for more details. Booking for premium events like the new Rockin’ Burger Block Party (details soon!), Party for the Senses and Signature Dining Experiences will begin July 30.

Over at the America Gardens Theatre, the Garden Rocks Concert Series will keep crowds rockin’ every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Little River Band, Pablo Cruise, Gin Blossoms, and Village People join the lineup of top bands representing four decades of pop music.

Plus, each weekend, Disney gardeners will lead how-to Gardening Seminars and workshops at the Festival Center.

Guests can also discover magical gardens and interactive exhibits throughout the park. A new Healing & Health Garden near The Land pavilion in Future World will display ancient medicinal plants including garlic, aloe, chamomile, fennel, mint and others. In the United Kingdom pavilion, a new Shakespeare Garden will feature roses to represent “Romeo and Juliet,” rosemary from “Hamlet,” lavender from “The Winter’s Tale” and more. Plus, the Butterflies on the Go exhibit will follow the Monarch butterfly’s epic journey across the continent.

Young Guests can clamber around play gardens featuring state-of-the-art climbing equipment and hands-on activities in Mike & Sulley’s Monstrous Garden and Cactus Road Rally Garden with Mater and Lightning McQueen topiaries. And, when the sun sets, illuminated topiary and play gardens will glow brightly for an after-dark festival experience.

‘Limited Time Magic’ Sweets to Celebrate Independence Week at Disney Parks

Fourth of July themed sweets at Magic Kingdom Park, Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios are a special “Limited Time Magic” treat, on menus for just one week from July 1-7.
Here’s what you’ll find:

Over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, ever-popular cupcakes celebrate the Fourth of July with an all-American “apple pie” cupcake – vanilla cake with apple pie filling, caramel buttercream frosting and apple crisp topping. Topped off with a flourish of red, white and blue sprinkles and a red, white and blue white chocolate Mickey Mouse. The cupcakes are on the menu at ABC Commissary, Pizza Planet, Backlot Express, Studio Catering Co., Starring Rolls, Rosie’s All-American Café and Fairfax Fare. Cost is $4.99 and the cupcakes are one snack entitlement on the Disney Dining Plan.

At Sunshine Seasons Bakery in The Land Pavilion in Epcot Future World, a fancy Baked Alaska Mousse is on the menu, a red, white and blue concoction of raspberry, white chocolate and blueberry mousse dipped in meringue. Cost is $3.99 and it is one snack entitlement on the Disney Dining Plan.

Upstairs in The Land Pavilion, Garden Grill is adding an old-fashioned patriotic dessert – a skillet peach cobbler with vanilla whipped cream. It’s part of the family-style Chip ‘n Dales’ Harvest Feast dinner served nightly.

In the Magic Kingdom Park, StoryBook Treats is adding a red, white and blue strawberry shortcake to the menu – white shortcake, red strawberries and fresh blueberries for a touch of blue. Cost is $4.99 and is not dining plan eligible.

Celebrate Easter at the Walt Disney World Resort Through March 31

It’s shaping up to be a lovely Easter weekend at Walt Disney World Resort. If you’re in town, here are a few different ways you can celebrate at our parks.

At Magic Kingdom Park, hop down Bunny Lane to visit Mr. and Mrs. Easter Bunny. (See the park’s Times Guide for an appearance schedule).

Mr. and Mrs. Easter Bunny will also pop in to meet-and-greet guests periodically. (Again, see the park’s Times Guide for more).

Easter Egg Hunts and games will also take place in Future World at Epcot for children ages 3-9. To join, stop by the Future World East-er Garden (between Innoventions and Universe of Energy). Space is limited.

Meet Disney Artist Brian Blackmore at the 2012 Epcot International Food & Wine Festival

Meet Disney Artist Brian Blackmore at the 2012 Epcot International Food & Wine Festival

I can’t get enough of the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival. I believe I have been around the world at least five different times this year! My favorite foods kiosks are Hawai’i, Australia and South Korea (hello, lettuce wrap!). A great place to start is at the Festival Center located in Future World next to Mission: SPACE. This themed area is home to food demonstrations, special activities, and an extensive merchandise location. If you enjoy fine art, there is a section within the Festival Center called “The Art of Food and Wine.” This store-within-a-store showcases artwork from several talented artists including Noah, Heather French, Patryk Poslednik, Liné Tutwiler, William Silvers and others.

Artwork from Disney Design Group character artist Brian Blackmore

Artwork from Disney Design Group character artist Brian Blackmore recently joined this section at the Festival Center. You may recall my conversation with Brian back in early September about his artwork found at the Italy Pavilion at Epcot. We recently introduced some canvas wrapped giclées based on that art. Brian also created one-of-a-kind original paintings based on his four designs. Each of these original works will measure 2-feet by 4-feet, and will be introduced starting October 26.
