5 Simple Tips To Enjoy Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

If you are anything like us, you love Fall and Halloween at the Magic Kingdom and especially Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party!  These parties are extra special events where they close the Magic Kingdom to regular park guests and bring in some extra special Halloween decorations and treats that you can only experience at the Party!

Here are 5 tips to help you enjoy these parties and get the most treats with no tricks!

1.  This is a Family Friendly Event  – Like the name implies, this is a Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.  Unlike other Orlando Theme Parks, Walt Disney World offers a purely family-friendly environment that is suitable for children of all ages.  There are some dark areas, but if your kids loves the Haunted Mansion, that is about as dark as the entire evening gets!

2.  Wear A Costume – Children are always allowed to wear Princess Outfits or Pirate Costumes in Disney Parks, but adults do not have that luxury…except for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Parties!  As long as you wear a costume that does not cover your face (ie. a full head or face mask) you are welcome to enjoy the party.  Remember, it’s still pretty warm in Orlando during the Fall, so make sure that your costume is lightweight an not too heavy!

5 Simple Tips To Enjoy Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

3.  Trick Or Treat All Night Long – During the party, there are several locations located all around the Magic Kingdom…and you can trick-or-treat as much as you want.  You can return as much as you want and as the night progresses, many Cast Members often become more generous in their treat giving.  We suggest bringing your own bag though…the bags that Disney provides are a little small.

4.  Arrive A Little Early – Even though Mickey’s Party officially starts at 7 p.m., which is when all of the entertainment actually begins, guests can enter with their Halloween Party tickets as early as 4 p.m. This is not something Walt Disney World advertises, but it absolutely is true, and you will see plenty of other guests arriving at 4 p.m., and Cast Members in their Halloween outfits at the turnstiles.  This allows you to enjoy a full 8 hours inside the park, for 1/2 the price!

5.  Make Time to Meet Characters – Haloweentime is one of the best times to meet your favorite Disney Characters, and during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary parties, all your favorite characters are dressed in special Trick-or-treat costumes!  Past favorites are Winnie the Pooh and friends, Snow White, and all 7 dwarfs – they are all not to be missed!!

5 Simple Tips To Enjoy Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

Mickey’s No-So-Scary Halloween Parties are Hard Ticketed events, which means you have to buy a separate ticked for entrance to the party.  The parties run on select nights in September and October from 7:00 pm to Midnight.

Face Your Deepest Fears At Halloween Horror Nights At Universal Orlando

For 27 select nights beginning September 20, Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights returns as the nation’s best and most intense Halloween event. Guests will confront extreme Halloween entertainment that cannot be experienced anywhere else.

Face Your Deepest Fears At Halloween Horror Nights At Universal Orlando

Halloween Horror Nights is Universal Orlando’s annual Halloween party, and it is one of the most popular events in Orlando. Especially if you’re a fan of horror films, this is a ‘don’t miss’ event for those looking for something a little edgier than Disney. For 25 nights this fall, Universal Studios Florida will be home to all-new haunted houses, street experiences, hundreds of frightening “scareactors” and live shows. Guests will be immersed in the horrors of years’ past and introduced to brand-new frights.

These are usually temporary structures set up specifically for the event (although, in the past, certain attractions have been converted into haunted houses for the event). Each of the houses is themed differently. As you walk through the attraction, any number of things or people are likely to jump out at you. Don’t worry, they won’t ever touch you, but they come pretty close. Instead of the scare zones of the past, this year there will be street experiences – the horror will come to you.  Everywhere you go, you will encounter The Legions of Horror, creatures who have escaped from an ancient buried cemetery.

The 2013 Haunted Houses

Resident Evil: Escape from Racoon City – Raccoon City is overrun with Umbrella Corporation’s most terrifying experiments, and the only option is complete destruction. You’ll need to duck and dodge Lickers, Hunters, and Nemesis himself if you want any chance of escaping Capcom’s video game terrors before missiles send everything back to hell.

An American Werewolf in London

An American Werewolf in London -Based on the John Landis horror classic, you’ll travel to the Slaughtered Lamb, experience the gruesome wolf attack on the moors and live the chaos of Piccadilly Circus. Beware the moon because tonight it brings only death.

The Walking Dead –Walk in the footsteps of the survivors as Season 3 of AMC’s horror hit relentlessly attacks you from all sides. Stay alert—walkers could trap you anywhere along your journey from the town of Woodbury to the claustrophobic confines of the derelict prison.

Face Your Deepest Fears At Halloween Horror Nights At Universal Orlando

Havoc 2: Derailed -Hang on tight aboard a militaristic train convoy that’s secretly transporting the “Dogs of War” — a genetically engineered super-soldier outfit. These bloodthirsty maniacs are bent on mayhem and destruction, with their sights set on twisting the metal of a speeding train. This is Havoc!

Afterlife: Death’s Vengeance-Serial killer Bobby “The Blade” is about to meet Ole’ Sparky. 2000 volts are going to send him to a horrific realm of pain. His victims have waited an eternity for vengeance. They’re bound to turn Bobby’s afterlife into an unimaginable, infernal torment.

Urban Legends: La Llorona -She is known as the weeping woman. Her legend is one of tragedy… and of murder. She drowned her children in the cold, watery depths and now torments all who hear her with icy, mournful cries. Forced to walk the earth for eternity, she seeks others to share her pain and suffering, now and forever.

Evil Dead -Relive “The Most Terrifying Film You Will Ever Experience” as gruesome Deadites try to possess your soul. There is nowhere to hide as every creaking floorboard and tangled vine is just waiting to pull you down, making you one with the Evil Dead.

The Cabin in the Woods – Experience a live recreation of the film that ripped the horror genre inside out. Beneath the cabin’s rustic appearance lies a secret facility that unleashes terrifying beings that you thought only existed in nightmares.

Street Experiences – AMC’S The Walking Dead

Face Your Deepest Fears At Halloween Horror Nights At Universal Orlando

AMC’s The Walking Dead has overtaken the streets of Universal Studios. From Atlanta to the forests and into Woodbury, you’ll have to fight your way through some of the most iconic locations in the show if you want to survive the night.

  • The Fall of Atlanta – The smell of death is in the air as you make your way past an iconic tank, sandbag barriers, and decayed rotting corpses on your journey through this decimated city. But be warned—the city’s not empty.
  • Woodlands – Tread carefully through these woods, as you never know who you might encounter. Lurking deep in the hidden depths are unforgettable scenes and characters from Seasons 1, 2 and 3.
  • Survivor’s Camp – There’s no one telling ghost stories at this derelict campsite, but there are plenty of undead. Will you dare to go closer to the eerily abandoned RV? Keep your wits about you or you might become a ghost story yourself.
  • The Farm – Something’s burning and it’s not a Sunday roast. Gasoline fumes ignite your senses as you encounter the smoldering remains of a singed country farm. See and smell the putrid barn, the red tractor, and more as you learn what’s causing that horrifying stench.
  • Clear – Turn around and live—proceed and face your fate. Stick together as you head down this street, because the spiked barriers are there for a reason. If you refuse to heed the spray-painted warnings, you’re in for a terrifying walk that will feel like an eternity.

Live Shows

When Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party returns to Magic Kingdom Park next week, Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom fans are in for an additional treat – the chance to pick up an event-exclusive game card!

Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom Hitchhiking Ghost Card Debuts at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

Just in case you’re new to the game, Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom is an in-park interactive experience that allows guests join Merlin’s quest to defeat Disney Villains who are scheming to take over Magic Kingdom Park. Guests use maps to search for villain hideouts throughout the park, visit magic portals and use spell cards to foil a villain’s plan. The quest begins in the Firehouse on Main Street, U.S.A., where you can pick up key cards, spell cards and maps (additional cards can be purchased at select merchandise locations).

This special card features the Hitchhiking Ghosts from the Haunted Mansion attraction and lets us “sorcerers” tap into the supernatural power that lies within the Haunted Mansion’s graveyard. Players can use the card to direct poltergeists to scare away any Disney villains they may come across on their journey.

This special event card will be distributed separately from the regular Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom card packs (yes, you can pick up both while attending the party). The Hitchhiking Ghost card is available at both the Magic Kingdom Firehouse and the Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom location behind Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe during the party, and guests must register to play with their party ticket and event wristband in order to get one.

Check it out below.

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Returns Tonight at Magic Kingdom Park

As a child, fall, to me, meant falling leaves, pumpkin patches, and the countdown to Halloween and trick-or-treating.

As an adult, it means taking my family to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party for our ultimate fix of Halloween fun. The event returns to Magic Kingdom Park tonight, with the first Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party kicking off at 7 p.m

Parties include trick-or-treating (for kids of all ages), performances of Mickey’s “Boo to You Parade” and Halloween-themed “Happy HalloWishes” fireworks, Disney characters in costume, access to theme park attractions and much more.

This year, I’m looking forward to experiencing the party’s new entertainment elements, including the Not-So-Scary Street Jam with the Creepa Crew, which will happen only on Main Street, U.S.A. The Creepa Crew will lead guests in a choreographed dance to China Anne McClain’s “Calling All the Monsters” (you can get a quick lesson here), as well as a performance to “Monster Mash.” This year’s “Boo To You” parade will also feature the Halloween debut of the Jolly Roger Pirate Flag Corps.

Hauntingly Fun Halloween Merchandise Features the Haunted Mansion at Disney Parks

Halloween at Disney

As summer winds down, I’m anticipating the arrival of my favorite season. Fall is host to many things I love, including college football and my birthday. At Disney Parks, fall signifies the return of Halloween, a two-month celebration that includes special events like Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom Park in Florida or the amazing holiday makeover for the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland park. Speaking of the Haunted Mansion, this classic attraction will be prominently featured in new Halloween merchandise arriving in August. You may recall my conversation with Cody Reynolds, Senior Character Artist with Disney Design Group, about last year’s playful artwork. Cody explained that collaboration was a key ingredient in creating this year’s designs.

Disney Halloween Merchandise

“This year’s art program has been in development for about 18 months,” said Cody. “Disney Theme Park Merchandise partnered with Walt Disney Imagineering, Entertainment and the Food and Beverage division in order to create one cohesive visual story for Halloween that will be used in several ways at Disney Parks.”

As we talked, Cody showed me the progression of concepts for this year’s art.

“We worked through concepts that had characters wearing a variety of costumes,” continued Cody. “We dressed them as pirates, princesses, clowns and more. We finally settled on their theme park attire with a fun Halloween twist, like Minnie’s classic polka dot dress done in black and orange.”

Halloween artwork

This artwork will be used on a variety of merchandise items, including decorative items, mugs, pins, shirts, hats,Vinylmation, and much more. We are also introducing a line of Haunted Mansion-inspired items that will be carried year round. (I gave a first look at these items a few months ago.)

I particularly like how the Mansion’s gates were used as the place where the characters and Mansion residents meet.

“We intentionally chose the gates as a meeting place,” Cody explained. “They worked really well for the story we were telling, as they are a common feature found at the Haunted Mansion attractions.”

Disney's “Countdown to Halloween” figurine

Cody drew the characters, while Disney Design Group artist Darren Wilson created the “ghostly” type font. Disney artist Patty Landing contributed the great patterns and graphic elements (like that stylized Haunted Mansion wallpaper!).

I think one of my favorite new items is the “Countdown to Halloween” figurine. Now I just need to figure out what costume to wear this year.

Treat Yourself to a Halloween Transformation at Disney Parks

It’s hard to believe kids are already heading back to school or will be within the next month. Where did the time go? Which means one thing, Halloween is right around the corner. That’s why in the coming weeks Disney Parks Blog author Steven Miller and I will be sharing some of the many “tricks” and “treats” that we have up our sleeves this year, as we debut some of the new Halloween merchandise set to hit store shelves at both the Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts.

Before we share all of these “boo-tiful” new items with you, here’s a quick reminder about some things to keep on your radar. If you are looking to scare up some fun this Halloween, then Mickey’s Halloween Party is the ticket. What better way to celebrate the season than to trick-or-treat throughout the ultimate Disney neighborhood, view Halloween Screams fireworks spectacular, meet some of your favorite Disney characters decked out in festive Halloween attire and enjoy many of your favorite Disneyland park attractions? The best part is – if you buy early, you save. Where will I be? First in line for Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy, of course.

Halloween Transformation at Disney Parks

With The Happiest Place on Earth about to get a little spookier, there’s only one question that remains … what look should you dress up as this year? And there’s no better place to start than with a transformation, especially for those of you thinking about becoming a Pirate or Pirate Princess. If you haven’t joined Jack’s crew yet, it’s time to climb aboard because The Pirates League ship has set sail. Reservations opened today! Of course, for our little princesses and valiant knights, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is brewing up something a little more be’witch’ing, while Studio Disney 365 is sure to give you a case of “Night Fright.”

What other Halloween costumes and goodies are coming your way this season? I guess you’ll have to wait and see … it will be a ghoulish delight!
