Cosmic Ray's Starlight Café
Located in the Magic Kingdom
Lunch
This
fast food counter service restaurant is located at the Magic Kingdom in
Tomorrowland just across from Grand Prix Raceway. Although it is the largest
fast food eatery in the Magic Kingdom I had never really paid much attention to
it. I could vaguely remember walking through it a few years ago as I made the
rounds to all the restaurants in the Magic Kingdom searching out menus and
prices for an article I was writing. Now, based on a recommendation from a
friend I was about to treat my family to lunch at Ray’s.
The place is so large that as we entered it took a minute or two for us to get
our bearings. I mean this place is big; we’re talking 747 big here. OK, I think
you get it right? So the place is big. What else?
Ray in his zeal to corner the market with the lunchtime crowd, at the Magic
Kingdom, has really assembled several restaurants in one. As we moved from East
to West in search of nourishment our Disney Mom found the ½ Rotisserie Chicken
with Mashed Potatoes to her liking. At the next counter I found the Sub-Orbital
Cheese Steak Sub & Fries that my friend had recommended to me. Moving still
further west, our thirteen-year-old settled on the Meteor Meal, which was a ½
pound-Double Cheeseburger with Fries. The four-year-old in the family settled on
Corn Dog Nuggets with French Fries.
Interestingly enough, what we found most attractive about Cosmic Rays also
caused us the most difficulty. Even though we were able to satisfy everyone’s
desire for something different we were also faced with three different lines and
three separate cashiers.
This small obstacle was overcome after we synchronized our watches, settled on a
rendezvous table in the Southeastern quadrant, divided up our lunchtime Mickey
dollars and headed to our individual counters.
I think the fact that we held off until a little after 1:00pm made it easier and
possibly more enjoyable than if we had wandered in even an hour earlier. Tables
were readily available and the lines were really rather short.
Mom seemed pleased that she was eating something a little more substantial than
your typical fast food. My Cheese Steak Sub was as good as my friend had
promised it would be. And the fact that we heard nothing during the entire three
minutes it took for our older son to wolf down his cheeseburger is enough said
there. So, if you are hungry and not exactly sure what you and yours might want,
then grab a compass head to Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café.
