Mama Melrose's Ristorante
Italiano
Located in the Disney-Hollywood Studios
Dinner
As a family we have been to Walt Disney World seven
or eight times over the past few years, but this would be the first time
we were to have dinner at this restaurant located in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
It is situated near the back of the theme park just off the New York
Street set, which is no accident I’m sure, because Mama Melrose's resembles
a big city neighborhood restaurant of the 30’s or 40’s.
As I waited my turn to give the hostess our name I
watched as several obviously disappointed guests were turned away, albeit
politely, by a young attractive Disney cast member when she learned that
they had not made a priority seating. I stood there as she scanned the
computer looking for our name feeling a little like a Christian standing
in the Coliseum waiting for Caesar’s granddaughter to give the thumb up or
thumb down. I was relieved when strangely enough with the same smile and
polite voice she had just used to banish the previous family this
obviously powerful teenager told us our table was ready and that we could
be seated right away.
We followed another cast member as she led us past
red-and-white-checkered tablecloths, red vinyl booths and over the worn
wooden floors to our table. After giving our order of Oak Grilled Chicken
Marsala, Oreehiette Pasta, a Grilled Pepperoni Individual Wood Fired
Flatbread, and a selection from the kids menu for the four year in the
family I took the time to enjoy the atmosphere of this restaurant. The
room although large feels cozy after being divided by half walls and
broken up with large comfortable booths scattered all around. The room’s
worn look gives the impression that it has been there for a long time and
that the same Italian family has been running it generation after
generation.
This comfortable and warm Italian eatery,
hits the spot. With its well-prepared pasta, meat and seafood combos, it
is definately worth seeking out.
