Disney's Hollywood Studios is a freestanding theme park more
closely situated to Epcot and Downtown Disney than the Magic
Kingdom. By Disney’s definition it is a working movie and
television studio theme park. For a description of what a
working movie and television studio theme park is let’s
reach back to perhaps more familiar ground. Disney's
Hollywood Studios can be described as having drawn the best
of Epcot, that is experiencing education and learning, and
combined it with the magic and excitement of the Magic
Kingdom. So for those interested in the history and
technology of the movies or those who just want to be
entertained Disney's Hollywood Studios should have something
for everyone.
Currently
Disney's Hollywood Studios is the center of gravity for the
100 Years of Magic Celebration at Walt Disney World. This is
a 15-month long celebration that marks the 100th anniversary
of Walt Disney’s Birthday. To help mark Walt Disney’s 100th
birthday the imaginers at Disney's Hollywood Studios have
created and are now displaying the theme park's new icon, a
giant Sorcerer’s Hat. This centerpiece of the park stands
122 foot tall and weighs 156 tons and is located at the end
of Hollywood Boulevard in front of the Chinese Theater. It
is designed to look like the hat worn by Mickey in the
animated classic “Fantasia.”
Excuse me but can you tell me how to get to…?
Disney's Hollywood Studios is essentially divided into two
sections. The front of the park is a theme park much like
the Magic Kingdom with open access to guests. The rear of
the park is the “backlot”, with its working sound stages,
wardrobe shops and animation studios. Here access is limited
to guided tours that are conducted by either walking or by
tram.
Hollywood
Boulevard
With its art deco architecture this is the “Main Street" of
Disney's Hollywood Studios. It is designed to look like a
recreation of Hollywood during the 1920’s and 30’s. All
along the palm lined street guests will find a mix of
merchandise shops and eateries, as well as the following
guest services.

Disney Trivia:
In September 1964, Walt Disney received the Presidential Medal
of Freedom from Lyndon B. Johnson - a president who, ironically,
never visited Disneyland.
This attraction's priceless collection of more than 400 pieces of
memorabilia arrived via FedEx Express from California on a dedicated
Airbus A300 designated Spirit of Imagination. The coast-to-coast
delivery took just a few hours.
A self-educated man, Walt Disney
attended just one year of high school.
Walt Disney received his first and only story screen credit in the
1965 release "Lt. Robin Crusoe" as "Retlaw Yensid" - Walter Disney
spelled backwards. |
