Intimate or Adult Dining
Head For The Exit
Walt Disney World is almost synonymous with kids. This is
particularly true within the major theme parks, especially the Magic
Kingdom. So, if it is your desire, your wish, even your hope to
experience a quieter dining experience than let’s says a picnic
lunch on an airport runway, then you may want to consider choosing a
restaurant outside the theme parks. With a little planning and
forethought you can easily find a restaurant at one of the Disney
Resort Hotels that will offer a relaxing and enjoyable dining
experience.
But I Am Hungry Now!
Lunch
Escaping the stroller crowd for lunch may not present as many
options as dinner, but here again with a little planning you can
find some R&R and a good meal.
The Magic Kingdom
For me there is really only one choice. Find the exit and board the
resort monorail and head to the Grand Floridian Café located at The
Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.
This 20 minute trip will transport you to another world.
Epcot
Here I have on a couple of occasions managed a relaxing lunch and a
pretty good meal and I only had to travel as far as Canada. Le
Cellier, the restaurant located in the Canadian Pavilion has on each
occasion produced a great lunch and a nice break.
Disney-Hollywood Studios
Leaving this theme park is a little more difficult and costly in
terms of time. Luckily Disney decided to place in this theme park
one of the best, no wait a minute I mean the best lunch time theme
park restaurant this side of Hollywood and Vine. The Hollywood Brown
Derby may not allow you to entirely escape the stroller crowd but
the comfortable, relaxing and elegant atmosphere seems to subdue
even its younger guests.
Animal Kingdom
Alright I’m stuck. I don’t know if it is the beat of the African drums
or the sound of the wild animals but I have yet to find an oasis in
this land of Jungle Imaginations. So perhaps you can load up on a
breakfast of carbohydrates before you arrive and then pick berries
from among the foliage as you tour the park or simply stop for a
quick snack and plan an early dinner back at your home resort.
Has The Sun Gone Down Yet?
Dinner
Some of the finest dining in the Southeastern United States is
located in the Walt Disney World Resort. Scattered throughout Walt
Disney World are any number of dining options ranging from open
kitchens offering fresh and exciting dishes with spectacular views
to elegant and formal dining that will offer a meal and an
experience that is truly worth remembering.
Here are a few of my favorites.
The Flying Fish Café
Located at Disney’s BoardWalk
Fine dining similar in style, cuisine and quality as that of
Disney’s California Grill
California Grill
Located at Disney’s Contemporary Resort
Found on the 15th floor of the Contemporary Resort this restaurant
commands the best view you will find while dining at Disney. The
combination of fine dining and excellent service makes this a
restaurant that even the locals are flocking to.
Citricos
Located at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
This restaurant was designed by the same interior designer that gave
us Disney’s California Grill and The Flying Fish and is earning a
reputation among Disney guests for being as fine of a dining
experience as any on Disney property.
Victoria & Albert's
Located at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
Reservations taken here will require a credit card.
Disney’s most elegant restaurant offers an intimate dining
experience matched only by the food, which is prepared by some of
the best culinary talent found anywhere.
Evening attire for ladies, jackets required for gentlemen.
Artist Point
Located at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
The Northwest Lodge setting of this resort is continued in their top
of the line restaurant. Outside the tall windows of the restaurant,
guests are treated to a view of Bay Lake or a waterfall that begins
in the hotel’s lobby and continues past the dinner guests as it flows
over rocks and past beautiful wildflowers. You will find yourself
telling your friends about this memorable dining experience when you
get back home.
The Hollywood Brown Derby
Located at Disney-Hollywood Studios
Theme Park admission required
Cobb salad, chicken, seafood, steak and California wines are offered
in this the best restaurant to be found in this or any theme park
for that matter.
Les Chefs de France Restaurant
Located at Epcot's France pavilion
Onion soup, casserole of escargot, Duck a’ l’Orange and chocolate
mousse cake are among the many items served here.
Quick and Casual
In our next issue we will explore some of the fast food or counter
service fare that won’t leave you wishing you hadn’t.
