Dining By Location
When
considering any aspect of a vacation at Walt Disney World it is
important to keep one very big fact in mind. This place is huge. It
is forty-seven square miles. It’s twice the size of Manhattan.
So, how might this affect your decisions on dining?
Pack A Lunch
You may find that you are literally miles away and sometimes as much
as one and a half hours away from the restaurant that you so
innocently selected while planning your trip itinerary back home.
So, unless you want to pack a lunch for the ride to lunch stop to
consider exactly where the restaurant you selected is located within
this mega resort and how you will get there.
You Can’t Get There From Here
Where you are very much matters in relationship to where you need to
be. Disney’s celebrated transportation system, although highly
efficient and dependable has an Achilles heel. It is designed around
a spoke and hub system. In other words certain destinations can be
accomplished by direct routes, while others will require that you go
to a hub in order to transfer to another route that will take you to
your ultimate destination.
Say That Again
Let’s say you are enjoying a morning in the Magic Kingdom but have
planned for lunch at Epcot. You will first need to herd your troops
to the front of the Magic Kingdom, then exit the park and load them
onto the monorail. This monorail will take you to the Ticket and
Transportation Center where you will have to disembark and exit that
monorail line for the Epcot monorail. After catching the Epcot
monorail you will travel the four miles to the front of Epcot. After
passing through security and Epcot turnstiles you will then need to
pass through Future World to World Showcase and finally to let’s say
the German Pavilion. All I can say is that had better be some pretty
good Sauerbraten.
Maybe Tomorrow
The point we are trying to make here is simple. If a little food and
song at Germany’s Biergarten Restaurant and its perpetual
Oktoberfest is a must on your vacation to do list, then, secure a
priority seating for there on the same day you plan to visit Epcot.
So Do You Play Where You Eat or Eat Where You Play?
Now it may seem like a simple case of semantics, but that fact
remains that you will need to plan one in order to consider the
other. In our opinion you should first plan you day to day
itineraries and then choose from among the restaurants located at or
at least within easy access from that days activities.
A Little Planning, A Lot More Fun
A little fore thought and planning prior to leaving home will go a
long way in making your vacation at Walt Disney World what it should
be and that is fun. As we always say the more you know the more you
will be able to see, do and in this case eat. |
