After December 31, 2006 all air and sea travel to or
from Canada, Mexico, Central America, South America, Bermuda, and the Caribbean
will require each traveler to have in their possession a valid passport. As of
December 31, 2007 this requirement will be extended to all land and border
crossings as well as air and sea travel.
A passport is an internationally recognized travel document that verifies the
identity and nationality of the bearer
New applicants for a passport may apply in person at over seven thousand
facilities located throughout the United States including many federal, state,
and probate courts, post offices, some public libraries and county and municipal
offices. There are thirteen regional passport agencies which serve customers
traveling within two weeks or who need foreign visas for travel.
You will need one form of photo identification,
birth certificate, and two recent photos.
For those planning a cruise or trip late in the year you should go ahead and
apply for your passport now so you won't experience delays caused by the
expected influx of applicants later in the year. |
