Disney After Hours Returns for 7 Nights in Early 2017

When Elephants Fly

Last spring, Disney After Hours event nights debuted at Magic Kingdom Park and delighted attendees with quick access to some of the park’s most popular attractions and character greetings. Disney is thrilled to share that this unique hard-ticket event will return for select dates in January, February and March 2017.

In case you aren’t familiar, Disney After Hours events are limited to a small number of guests, allowing attendees to maximize their time in the park with little to no wait at 25 attractions and experiences, like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid, Space Mountain and many more. The Disney After Hours ticket allows park entry as early as 7 p.m., which gives attendees time to enjoy the park’s nightly “Wishes” fireworks, and then remain in the park for three hours past the park’s scheduled closing time. In addition, ice cream novelties and select beverages are also provided as part of your admission.

Disney After Hours event nights are currently set for January 20 and 27, February 2, 9 and 16, and March 2 and 9, 2017. (Please note that Disney After Hours does not replace Extra Magic Hours (EMH) for our resort guests and are instead held on non-EMH dates).

Tickets are available now. Contact your Kingdom Magic Travel Planner for more information.

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Officially Open at the Magic Kingdom

Disney officially opened the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, the latest addition to the Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort.

Our new attraction is the crown jewel of New Fantasyland, and it features just the right combination of heart, humor, and thrill to appeal to everyone in the family. The attraction has a unique new ride system that allows the mine cars to sway back and forth as guests are immersed into the world of the treasured film.

Inside the mine, our Imagineers put to work some newly invented Audio-Animatronics magic that brings to life the stars of our attraction: Doc, Sneezy, Sleepy, Grumpy, Bashful, Happy, and Dopey. I think you’ll find all seven of them to be as charming as ever!

For the grand opening of this family-friendly roller coaster, we were joined by some very special guests — seven “Littles” and their “Bigs” from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Florida along with Orlando Magic stars Victor Oladipo and Tobias Harris.

As I said when we dedicated this attraction a few weeks ago, we think this ride will be an instant classic – one that will connect new generations to one of Walt Disney’s earliest stories and its timeless characters. We’re excited to kick-off the summer by sharing Seven Dwarfs Mine Train with all of our guests.

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train To Open May 28 at Walt Disney World Resort

At a special dedication ceremony at Magic Kingdom Park, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Tom Staggs announced that the “crowning jewel” of New Fantasyland, the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, will officially open on May 28.

During the dedication ceremony, Tom was joined by Disney Princess Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs as he invited everyone to celebrate the addition of the final component to New Fantasyland.

“Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is both literally and figuratively the centerpiece of New Fantasyland, so we knew it had to be something special,” Tom said. “The attraction appeals to everyone in the family and provides just the right blend of heart, humor, and thrill while keeping with the charm of this special land.”

The family-style coaster features an innovative new ride system that allows cars to swing back and forth as they travel down the track. The cars are even designed to reflect similar vehicles that appear in the film, handmade of wood by the Dwarfs, shaped by an axe, and used to haul rocks and jewels.

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train also uses the latest in technology featuring some of the most advanced and charming Audio-Animatronics figures Disney Imagineers ever created. Adding to the fun, the journey will be accompanied by music from the film classic and scenes filled with Snow White, the Seven Dwarfs and playful forest critters.

This new attraction is an amazing addition to New Fantasyland – keep your eyes out for more information to come!

Disney Imagineers Bring The Seven Dwarfs to Life at Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

In a new video, Disney Imagineers take us behind the scenes of the new Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at the Magic Kingdom to see how they’re bringing to life some of the most advanced Audio-Animatronics ever created.

According to them, the process involved working with Walt Disney Animation Studios and going back to the original film to study each Dwarf’s individual motions and even facial expressions in order to get them just right. The end goal: To make them look as if they just jumped off of the screen and landed in Walt Disney World!

Enjoy A CGI Ride-Through of Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Magic Kingdom Park

This week, Walt Disney Imagineers released a full version of a CGI video that takes you on a colorful ride through part of the new Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at the Magic Kingdom.

A portion of this was shared during “The Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade” broadcast back in December – check out the full version below.

Get The Inside Scoop on The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at the Magic Kingdom

Disney Parks shared a photo that was snapped by Walt Disney Imagineering inside the Mine Scene at the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train attraction in New Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom. In this scene, the Dwarfs are hard at work in the mine and this chalkboard is how they keep track of the treasures they find.

When you ride through the attraction, you’ll see that jewels appear in four different sizes and in six different colors: red, green, amber, purple, blue and clear.

Walt Disney Imagineering also released a video of Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and we wanted to be sure you didn’t miss it.

In the video, compare onboard footage of the attraction side-by-side with an original CGI onboard that was created early on in the attraction’s development.

Peek Behind-the-Scenes at the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

We’re thrilled to start off the New Year with an exciting behind-the-scenes look at Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.

Walt Disney Imagineering just shared this new video with us, in which Walt Disney Imagineers Ben VanBeusekon and Mary Mac Eachin explain the creative process behind designing and producing themed cars for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. As they explain, in addition to being a part of the attraction’s innovative new ride system that causes cars to swing back and forth while they travel down the track, the train cars are painted and aged in a way that contributes to the storyline of the attraction. All in the Details: A Castle Fit for a…Mermaid in New Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom Park

When I think about the New Fantasyland expansion, what gets me most excited is that Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) is adding two Disney castles to the park – Beast’s Castle, which houses Be Our Guest Restaurant, and the one pictured below, Prince Eric’s Castle, which tops off the Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid attraction.

Prince Eric’s Castle in the New Fantasyland

While we’ve showcased pieces of this castle in previous posts, here’s the first complete look at Prince Eric’s abode. I have to say when I first saw the rendering for this attraction, I had no idea it would possibly turn out to be this amazing!

Prince Eric’s Castle

Just like Beast’s Castle, Prince Eric’s Castle uses the forced perspective technique for which WDI is famous to make the structure appear much larger in size than it is in reality.

Forced perspective, which has been used since Walt Disney oversaw the construction of Disneyland park in the 1950s, is sort of an optical illusion that uses architectural scale to “trick” the eye into believing a building towers above you, when it’s really not as tall as you’d think.

So I have to ask, which of these new castles do you prefer – Beast’s Castle or Prince Eric’s? (Visit this post for a look at Beast’s). I have my favorite. Share yours in the “comments” section below!

All in the Details: Mosaics Tell a ‘Tale as Old as Time’ at Be Our Guest Restaurant in Magic Kingdom Park

This week, our friends at Walt Disney Imagineering have shared a few photos from inside one of our readers’ most anticipated areas of New Fantasyland – the Be Our Guest Restaurant!

In addition to an artfully planned menu, it looks like the elegant decor and the tiny references to the “Beauty and The Beast” film will really make this dining experience magical.

Mosaic Tiles in Be Our Guest Restaurant

An elegant floor mosaic, which depicts Beast’s enchanted rose trimmed in gold, will welcome guests to the restaurant.

Lovely tile mosaics also adorn the walls and tell Belle and Beast’s love story through their colorful pictures.

Intricate columns at the doorway to Be Our Guest Restaurant

And while I can’t get you in to dine just yet, I can get you to the doorway, which is highlighted with intricate columns. Notice the deep cracks at the top? Could that be some of the damage that was done to the castle when Beast was turned, well, into a beast?
