With the expansion of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disney is excited to give guests even more opportunities to celebrate the magic of animals and nature as day turns into night. While they hoped to debut these offerings on April 22, unfortunately, they will not open as planned on that date as they give the team more time to bring these innovative experiences to life in a way that will exceed guests’ expectations.
This image from a recent rehearsal of Rivers of Light illustrates a bit of the beauty and complexity of this innovative blend of water, light and original music that brings with it so many firsts.
This video of the iconic Tree of Life shows how the centerpiece of Disney’s Animal Kingdom will truly come alive with swirling animated imagery that tells enchanting stories from nature.
Disney apologizes for any inconvenience and look forward to debuting these new offerings. They hope you agree that they look worth the wait!
As progress continues on enhancements throughout Disney’s Animal Kingdom – including the construction of a new Africa Marketplace in Africa, and bringing the world of Pandora to life – the park’s iconic Tree of Life has been growing some new roots as well.
Construction walls were recently removed to reveal how the tree’s roots have expanded into the central hub area. Within those roots, guests will discover carvings of new animals that make up the circle of life, from tiny bugs to large crocodiles and more.
In addition to offering guests a wonderful view of The Tree of Life, the expanded roots will also offer a widened walkway for guests visiting Discovery Island.
The Tree of Life originally debuted as the park’s icon at the park’s opening in 1998 at Walt Disney World Resort, after 12 months of construction. The 145-foot tall structure is covered in more than 103,000 leaves and originally featured more than 325 animal carvings.
This 145-foot-tall masterpiece was designed as a symbol of the circle of life and features 325 animals sculpted into its roots, trunk and branches. No matter how many times I visit the park, I love to try to count how many different animals I can spot.
Check out this video, which shows the construction of the tree from ground up.
