Magic Kingdom

The Magic Kingdom, which weighs in at a little over 100 acres first began treating guests to its special combination of adventure and fantasy on October 1st, 1971. Since that opening day countless guests young and old from all over the world have enjoyed and experienced the many sights and sounds of this park. The Magic Kingdom perhaps more than any of the other Walt Disney World theme parks epitomizes the magic that is Disney.

“to all who come to this happy place…” Roy Disney Oct, 1971
Whether it is the nostalgic tribute to the turn of the century Middle America, the salute to our earliest days as a nation, the old west presented as we would like to remember it or the adventure of a tropical land the allure of this “the most magical place on earth” has endured for more than a generation.

Excuse me but can you tell me how to get to…?
With its spoke and wheel design the layout is deceivingly simply. Guests after they pass down Main Street U.S.A. with its shops and restaurants will find themselves entering the hub, which features Cinderella Castle.
From there guests can choose from any of the six lands that lead away from Cinderella’s Castle. Each land that awaits you will allow you to leave behind the ordinary and experience something really quite extraordinary.

This 1900 turn-of-the-century reproduction of a Middle American small town is more than just where guests enter and exit the Magic Kingdom. Beginning at Town Square with its City Hall and fire station and continuing down Main Street with its shops and eateries the attention to detail is amazing. Every aspect of the very real buildings along with their furnishings is accurate for of the period. Disney Trivia: The four trains are named Lilly Belle (named for Walt Disney's wife Lillian), Roy O. Disney (Walt's brother), Roger E. Broggie (Disney Imagineer) and Walter E. Disney.

Walt Disney was a great train aficionado. He had a train, the Carolwood Pacific, in the backyard of his California home. His wife Lillian didn't object to Walt building a railroad in their backyard as long as he didn't disturb her flower garden. Walt built a tunnel so the trains wouldn't disturb her roses.

Travel on the rivers of three different continents. See exotic animals, zany explorers and ancient ruins as your skipper leads you deep into the jungle. Be prepared for surprises along the way; your skipper's sure to regale you with humorous tales of danger.

Long been considered a must see this perennial favorite is however beginning to show its age. An outdoor jungle cruise that works its way through a twisting and winding waterway, while the cast member skipper entertains guests with often funny or at least amusing patter. For an enhanced experience and one in which this attraction’s age will not be as apparent try it at night.

      Fast Pass Available
Disney Tip: Don't worry. The hippos aren't dangerous unless they wiggle their ears!

Walt Disney originally intended the Jungle Cruise to be roaming with live animals. It wasn't until he realized that he couldn't control the animals' sleeping habits that he realized he could tell a better story using Audio-Animatronics.

Trivia Note: The first version of the Jungle Cruise was very serious, based on Walt Disney's True Life Adventure Series. It wasn't until a few years later that the humorous vignettes were added.

Cast member skippers of the Jungle Cruise fire off over 600,000 rounds of blank ammunition each year.

    • Pirates Of The Caribbean

First the attraction inspired the movie — now the movie is inspiring the attraction! Get ready to set sail on this boisterous boat ride to discover Captain Jack and his nemesis Barbossa interacting with some of the more familiar Audio-Animatronics® buccaneers and adding a terrific twist to the adventure — along with new special effects. The exciting enhancements to this classic Disney attraction are another great reason to join the Happiest Celebration On Earth!

      The Pirates' Life for You!

Captain Jack Sparrow will be on hand to lead lighthearted "pirate training." Kids will be invited to join the fun, interactive hi-jinks at various times daily, beginning July 7 through the end of August, 2006.  Yo ho, yo ho! A pirate's life for me! Take a wild voyage through secret caverns and fierce sea battles as you join the rowdiest rogues and rapscallions that ever sacked the Spanish Main. It's a boat ride through classic Disney swashbuckling adventures. Sail these treacherous waters in search of pirate booty, but be warned: "dead men tell no tales!"
Disney Trivia: You depart through an 18th century Spanish fortress known as "El Castillo — Torre del Sol" (The Castle — Fortress of the Sun).

This was originally envisioned as a walk-through until Walt Disney saw the possibilities presented by the boats in Disney's "it's a small world" attraction at the 1964 New York World's Fair.

Pirates of the Caribbean was on the drawing board for years as a walkthrough attraction. Walt Disney decided to use a boat system similar to the one that had been so successful for "it's a small world."

Pirates of the Caribbean was the last theme park show that was personally supervised by Walt Disney.

This beloved attraction is one of the few attractions featured at Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris.

Ahoy! Pirates of the Caribbean pillaged the 2004 Disney Magazine Reader's Choice Award for Favorite Walt Disney World® Resort Audio-Animatronics® Attraction!

Disney Tip: Don't miss the plaques throughout the tree that tell, in journal form, the story of the Robinsons and their sons: Ernest, Francis, Jack and little Fritz.

Disney Trivia: The tree's structural root system goes four stories into the ground below the tree.

"Swiss Family Robinson" was written in 1812 by Johann David Wyss. The Disney film of the same name was released in 1960.

The tree has 300,000 man-made leaves.

Disney Tip: Listen for Iago singing a whole new version of the smash hit "Friend Like Me" from Disney's "Aladdin."

Disney Trivia: The original Enchanted Tiki Room was the first attraction to function completely via the wonders of Audio-Animatronics technology.

The Tiki gods that can be seen in and around the showroom are fashioned after the mythological Tiki gods of the Polynesian Islands - particularly Hawaii, Fiji, Tonga, and the Cook Islands.

    Watch for spitting camels.

    • The Hall of Presidents
Marvel at how theatrical magic brings you up close and personal to all of the Presidents of the United States. This sweeping tribute is a Disney classic. In a one-of-a-kind combination of dazzling widescreen film, breath-taking Audio Animatronics and Disney storytelling, all 43 U. S. presidents gather to hear the words of Abraham Lincoln. Hail to the Chief!  This historical theater presentation is one of most ambitious Audio-Animatronic displays to be found at Walt Disney World. During the performance’s grand finale where a roll call of president’s past and present is given guests will find the attention to detail is extraordinary. Always popular among older guests this sometimes slow moving presentation of the great moments in American history may cause the children and teens in the group to fidget.
Disney Trivia: This is one of the original attractions at the Magic Kingdom® Park which opened on October 1, 1971.

This attraction is inspired by Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln that Disney produced for the 1964-65 World's Fair in New York.

President Lincoln's dialog is based on excerpts from several of his actual speeches.

President George W. Bush and former President Bill Clinton personally recorded their own dialog for this show.

The suit that the Audio-Animatronics figure of President George W. Bush wears is based on his preferences - dark blue with a white shirt - and had to be specially made.

    • The Haunted Mansion
Make yourself at "tomb sweet tomb" in the home of 999 happy haunts, where there's "always room for one more." Inside, hop on a Doom Buggy to get in the "spirit" of things. Experience the stretching room, the séance and hitchhiking ghosts in this Disney classic. Perhaps no other attraction at Walt Disney World rivals the attention to detail and the special effects seen in this long time favorite. Younger children are often more frighten by the pre-show than anything actually experienced during the ride itself.
